Youth Conservation Corps Member

With an office in Edgecomb, Maine, our service area includes all of the Medomak River, Sheepscot River, and Damariscotta Lake watersheds.
Are you passionate about protecting and improving the water resources of Midcoast Maine? Midcoast Conservancy is seeking applications for two Youth Conservation Corps Crew Member positions. The Youth Conservation Corps program protects and improves water quality in the region by installing projects that reduce erosion and sources of polluted stormwater runoff using conservation practices. Projects will primarily take place in the Damariscotta Lake watershed and may include but are not limited to planting vegetation buffers, stabilizing shoreline, installing runoff diverters, and landscaping to soak up or divert runoff.
Position
This is a seasonal, part-time, non-exempt position for 8 weeks from late June to mid August. Crew Members typically work for 20 – 30 hours per week, which varies due to project demand and weather. Applicants are also encouraged to consider Midcoast Conservancy’s Courtesy Boat Inspector positions, which may be worked in combination with the YCC schedule. This position does not include housing or transportation, however, work-related transportation may be provided and work-related mileage is reimbursed.
Primary Responsibilities
Perform physically demanding outdoor labor on a daily basis installing landscaping and pollution control projects
Complete work thoroughly and efficiently, with high attention to safety
Work in a team environment and be courteous of landowner requests
A driver’s license is not required, but you must have transportation to our office in Edgecomb
Qualifications
Be energetic, passionate about the outdoors, and responsible with a positive attitude
Strong ability to work with others to complete a project
Willingness to learn about pollution control practices and interest in environmental stewardship
Ability to communicate clearly with other crew members, supervisor, and occasionally landowners
Willing and able to conduct manual labor outdoors on a regular basis in a variety of weather conditions, ability to lift 50 pounds
The recommended minimum age is 16, however, we will consider 15 year olds with reliable transportation and the ability to receive a work permit.
Compensation
The Youth Conservation Corps Crew Member earns $12.75-$14.00 per hour based on experience, paid on a bi-weekly basis.
