With an office in Edgecomb, Maine, our service area includes all of the Medomak River, Sheepscot River, and Damariscotta Lake watersheds.
Midcoast Conservancy is seeking applications for paid, part-time Courtesy Boat Inspectors (CBIs) for the 2021 summer season. Courtesy Boat Inspectors are the first line of defense against invasive aquatic species leaving or infesting Maine lakes by hitchhiking on boats, trailers, and other equipment. CBIs will work during weekends and holidays at boat launches on Damariscotta Lake, speaking with boaters and conducting inspections of watercraft as they are launched and removed from the water, ensuring they are not transporting any aquatic species.
Position
This is a seasonal, part-time, non-exempt position. Courtesy Boat Inspectors work weekends and holidays and some weekdays for approximately 7 – 21 hours per week. The season begins on Memorial Day weekend (May 27) and ends on Labor Day weekend (September 5).
Applicants must be available on weekends and holidays. CBIs work by themselves at public boat launches. CBIs will receive training before beginning inspections, and must be comfortable working very independently and interacting with the public. This position does not include housing or transportation.

Excellent communications skills with the general public
Considerable attention to detail
Strong ability to work independently
Interests in invasive aquatic plant or water quality issues and education
Must have reliable transportation to and from public boat launches on Damariscotta Lake in Jefferson and Nobleboro
Compensation
Courtesy Boat Inspectors start at $12.75 an hour with a $0.25 increase for every year of CBI experience up to $15 an hour, paid on a bi-weekly basis.
