We Stand With Wabanaki

At Midcoast Conservancy, we #StandWithWabanaki.

Tomorrow, February 15th, at 9 am, our state's legislators will hold a public hearing on LD 1626--a bill that would restore the right of self-governance and sovereignty to the indigenous Wabanaki tribes in Maine. Unlike almost every other state, Maine's system of tribal recognition and representation prevents the Wabanaki from benefitting from over 150 federal laws, while preventing their ability to truly and freely determine their communities future and steward their ancestral lands.

Simply put, LD 1626 is a step toward long-delayed justice and equality for Maine's indigenous people. And Midcoast Conservancy is committed to supporting it, for the sake of our lands, waters, and community--read our written testimony for this bill here.

The Wabanaki Alliance is seeking a goal of 500 Mainers submitting testimony in support of this bill before tomorrow--will you consider adding your voices to ours?
