Earth Day Cleanup

This Earth Day, volunteers took “spring cleaning” to a whole new level when they tackled a family dump site on a new addition to Midcoast Conservancy’s West Branch Preserve. In under 4 hours, a dedicated crew of 20 folks removed tons of junk and hundreds of tires with hands, trucks, and a tractor. The day was both physically and mentally challenging, requiring plenty of teamwork and ingenuity to remove tires that were half buried, stuck on trees, or just plain heavy! Everyone fully devoted themselves to the dirty task, with the day culminating in a “tire brigade” line as volunteers worked together to roll tires out of a particularly tricky spot. As the day wound down, the incredible accomplishment was celebrated with well-deserved pizza while basking in the beautiful sunshine, the satisfaction of a job well done, and the joy of making new friends. The team was a true force of nature, and completely transformed a landfill into valuable wildlife habitat!

Special thanks to volunteers Brian McDougall and Quinton Shea, who donated their time, tractor, and expertise to fill a dump trailer and a 30-yard dumpster with junk!
