World Fish Migration Day Sheepscot Paddle

  • Head Tide Dam Alna, ME 04535 (map)

***NOTE: Due to unseasonably low water levels, the World Fish Migration Day Sheepscot Paddle has been cancelled. Please join us on one of our other paddles this summer - check our events page for listings.

In celebration of World Fish Migration Day, Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT) and Midcoast Conservancy (MC) are co-sponsoring a paddle on the Sheepscot River. World Fish Migration Day is a global celebration to raise awareness about the importance of migratory fish and free-flowing rivers.

Many partners, including Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, Department of Marine Resources, Atlantic Salmon Federation, Midcoast Conservancy, and Maine Coast Heritage Trust provide protection of the Sheepscot River to ensure high water quality in this important Midcoast Watershed.

The paddle event will take place on May 21 from approximately 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM. Registration is required and participants who register for the event will receive details on parking and launch time.

  • Gather at Head Tide Dam: Please join us as we kick off our paddle and we briefly share why the Sheepscot River is an important part of maintaining healthy sea-run fish populations.

  • Paddle down the Sheepscot River: Starting below the Head Tide Dam in Alna and finishing at Sheepscot Village in Newcastle.

  • Ride back to the start: Enjoy your ride back to the launch site with a free shuttle provided courtesy of Kieve Wavus Education. To learn more about Kieve Wavus Education visit kwe.org

Bring your own boat, paddles, and life jackets if you have them. There is a limited number of boats available free of charge upon request. It will be May in Maine so dress accordingly and be prepared for weather and bugs! Lastly, make sure you wear waterproof footwear or shoes you don’t mind getting wet.

The capacity for this trip is limited to 15 participants aged 15 years and older. Please pre-register online below. Only those who have pre-registered will be able to join the guided paddle.
