Midcoast Conservancy Welcomes New Shore Corps Steward in Partnership with Island Institute, Maine DEP, and Maine Conservation Corps

Midcoast Conservancy is proud to announce a new partnership with Maine Conservation Corps, the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and Island Institute through a dynamic new program: Shore Corps. This initiative is designed to provide hands-on support for shoreline erosion control and community outreach throughout midcoast Maine.

As part of this collaboration, Midcoast Conservancy and Island Institute will co-host a Shore Corps Steward for one year, beginning in June. We’re excited to welcome Emma Polhemus, a Maine Conservation Corps Environmental Steward, as the inaugural Shore Corps participant. Emma brings a strong background in environmental science and community-focused conservation work to the role. View Emma’s bio.

Throughout the summer, Emma will focus on erosion control projects within the Midcoast Conservancy service area, with an emphasis on the Damariscotta Lake watershed. She will assist landowners and community partners by developing technical assistance plans based on DEP’s “O.U.R. S.H.O.R.E” Program guidelines for shoreline protection.

During the winter months, Emma will shift her efforts to the Island Institute, where she will focus on building skills in community outreach and engagement—skills that will directly benefit midcoast communities upon her return.

Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting program gets underway!
